The Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce has begun accepting nominations for annual awards which will be presented at the November 17, 2010 Annual Awards Gala. August 9th, 2010Woods Mansion Restoration Receives Award

Joel and Barbara Brown were honored for restoring the 1874 Italianate Woods Mansion in Huntingdon Borough, receiving a Huntingdon County Community Improvement Award in the Residential Category.
Exterior features restored include the cupola, eaves brackets, scrolled corbels, front door and porch. The interior has been designed by noted painter John Rita of Altoona and features stenciled walls and trompe d’oeil to create the illusion of curtains and columns. A large ceiling mural of the nine muses adorns the 25 foot long dining room.

Snap Fitness/Subway Honored
March 11th, 2010Chris and Jackie Conferreceived the Huntingdon County Community Improvement Award in the Commerical Category. The Confer’s partnered with Mt Union businessman Ralph Parks to redevelop a former Mt Union hardware store into a restaurant and fitness center.
This project is a good example of neighborhood revitalization and sustainable development within the existing community. Renovation work began in August 2008, with completion in April 2009.

Allegrippis Trails Named Special Merit Winner

The Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake are the recipient of a Huntingdon County Community Improvement Program Special Merit Award. Accepting the award on behalf of the project’s many partners was Ron Rabena, President of Friends of Raystown Lake.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,partnered with Friends of Raystown and the International Mountain Biking Association to create 32 miles of single track muti use trails at Raystown Lake. Since completion last summer, over 6,000 mountain bikers have banked around hairpin curves, through streams and over hill and dale to enjoy this world class recreation facility.
Community Improvement Award
November 20th, 2009Nominations are being sought for the fifth annual Huntingdon County Community Improvement Award, recognizing excellence in development. Eligible for the award are new construction or substantial rehabilitation of buildings, subdivisions and land developments. Projects nominated may be residential, commercial or public/non-profit. The award is presented by the Huntingdon County Planning Commission and the Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce, with sponsorship by Kish Bank
The award program seeks to recognize excellence in development based on both visual or design elements and environmental impact of the project. Judges will focus on enhancement of the attractiveness of Huntingdon County , compatibility with the site and environment, creativity in design, innovation, and enhancement in the quality of life. Finally, projects will be rated on the basis of sustainability.
